Varek

Kealan Varek

Varek closes Kealan Varek's debut album with his most personal statement yet. Beginning with a solitary piano motif and gradually evolving through modern pop, R&B and sophisticated electronic production, the song looks beyond romance to confront identity itself. Kealan reflects on the different versions of himself he created to satisfy expectations, the mistakes he cannot undo, the people he has lost and the roads that never went according to plan. Instead of wishing those experiences away, he finally accepts that they are all part of the person standing here now. As the recurring piano melody transforms into the album's final electronic theme, Kealan makes one last declaration before allowing the music to finish the record for him: “My name is Varek—and this life is mine.”
